ST. LOUIS, MO — On Tuesday, February 24, Congresswoman Cori Bush joined other candidates in Jefferson City as she filed to run to take back her seat in Missouri's 1st Congressional District. The Congresswoman is running for office to advance a progressive agenda to deliver for everyday people by fighting for Medicare for All, abolishing ICE, and building an economy that works for all of us, not just the powerful and well-connected.
After filling, Cori spoke to the enthusiasm that the people of St. Louis have had for her grassroots campaign that takes no money from corporate PACs, in contrast to her opponent's billionaire-backed candidacy.
Cori explained: "The tide has already turned, and people are saying no — they want to be the ones to pick their representatives. And so, whether that money filters into the community or not, I think the community is also going to call out any candidate who is accepting that money."
Later that day, Cori joined fellow Congressional candidate Hartzell Gray, Missouri State Representative Ray Reed, Missouri State Representative Jeremy Dean, former St. Louis 11th Ward Alderman and Missouri House of Representatives candidate Jimmy Lappe, Columbia City Council Member Vera Elwood, and many more for the 'No MO' Fascism Rally' in Jefferson City. After the candidates filed, they joined supporters at the rally, organized by St. Louis DSA, Kansas City DSA, Mid-Missouri DSA, Our Revolution, CAIR Action, and Politivist Action, to stand up to Donald Trump's authoritarian agenda and build the progressive movement growing across Missouri.
Cori spoke to the crowd: "...Missouri says no more fascism. No more fascism because we don’t have to allow it to happen in our communities, in our towns, in our cities — regardless of what part of the state you live in, Missouri does not belong to the fascists. Missouri belongs to the people."
